For the past two years I have been an Administrative Assistant in the fashion industry. My day to day responsibilities consists of answering phones and routing calls, admitting and greeting guests, assisting the design/sales/Product development team with tasks as needed (steaming, making color cards, sample running, creating fabric charts, cutting swatches, etc.), accepting, sorting and distributing samples from the factory, sending out garment samples and fabric swatches to various mills for sourcing, sending out daily package to factory via FedEx, and any other tasks that are assigned to me.
The majority of my day is spent answering phone calls, responding to emails, ordering office
supplies, and assisting in helping different departments with their needs for the day. It is
important to always have a “can do” attitude as an Administrative Assistant because my help is needed for many different assignments and sometimes it may not necessarily be something that I am used to but I have gained a lot of experience and learned so much about the industry.
Not everyday is easy. There are definitely moments where my patience is tested but these
moments are all growing experiences and they have taught me what my strengths are which
has made me better at my job. As an AA I am required to interact with everyone in the
company which sort of forces me to be more social that I would ever be on my own. Because
of this I have made so many amazing relationships which is the best part of my job!
